There are some things in this life that are fucking hilarious. Like Paris Hilton going to jail, getting out and going back in to serve her full sentence. Then there are some things that are quite sad, like Billy Graham's wife dying of cancer after wasting away for weeks. And then, there are some things in this life that are downright appalling and absolutely fucking ridiculous.
Take for instance, 43 year old Elizabeth Rodriguez. She was taken to a downtown LA hospital by her husband because she was vomitting blood. However, instead of being immediately rolled into the emergency room for treatment, the nurses "watched her". They let her sit there and writhe on the floor while she was bleeding from the mouth and refused to help her. After 45 minutes of this bullshit, her husband took it upon himself to try and get the law involved. Once he called 911, the confused dispatcher tells him that she cannot help him because he was already at a hospital. She advised him to get someone from the staff involved and refferred him to call the county police.
This scene goes on for about 8 more minutes. Horrified by the negligence, a bystander places a second call to 911 to try and get the dying woman some badly needed help. This time, however, a different dispatcher is on the line and he is far from confused. In fact, he cops an attitude with this woman and acts like a complete smart ass. Check out what this dickhead has to say:
Bystander: They are overlooking her and claim that she's been discharged. She's definitely sick and everybody's ignoring her. Dispatcher: Okay, you're at that hospital, ma'am. You have to contact them. Bystander: They have, they're the problem! They won't help her. Dispatcher: They're the medical professionals. Okay? You're already at a hospital. 911 is used for emergency purposes only. Bystander: This IS an emergency! Dispatcher: It's not an emergency. It is not an emergency, ma'am. Bystander: It is. You're not here to see how they're treating her.
For a couple of more minutes, this bickering goes on, with the dispatcher refusing to send medical help from another hospital. Then, like a smug shithead, he tells her to call the hospital and let them know that she's unhappy. Aghast at the situation, she then ends the phone call with these words:
Bystander: May God strike you too for acting the way you just acted. Dispatcher: No, negative, ma'am. You're the one.
Yeah, I'll bet you're really eating those words right now, you sorry piece of shit.
Hold onto your seats, my friends; just when you think the situation looks dire thanks to the incompetent hospital staff and douchebag 911 operator, it just goes downhill from there.
30 minutes after the second phone call was made, the cavalry finally show up to come and take her away. And no, it's not an ambulance that comes after her to save her life--it's the cops, and guess what they're there for? They're there to arrest her for a parole violation. That's right, folks; they're there to escort a dying woman to their police station in downtown Los Angeles. Or at least, that's what they would have done if she hadn't died in the wheelchair on the way out to the paddy wagon.
That's some pretty heavy shit, ain't it? Now I know some of you have probably heard of this story on your way to work this morning. Some of you might have stayed at home and saw the story briefly on CNN. For those of you who don't listen to the radio, you've been at work all day and wondered why you didn't hear this story, let me explain it to you. Currently on yahoo.com, the featured stories are: the 100 most powerful celebrities in Hollywood, 10 tips for a lasting relationship, the NBA finals and some faggot salesman with a microphone. Apparently whether or not a corporate businessman can sing opera is a much more important story and therefore a higher priority.
The same goes for CNN.com--the website doesn't even feature the story under the health section. However, I did find this article on MSNBC's website, at the bottom of their health category. What's disturbing is that this story took one month to get out and it's getting piss poor coverage. I reckon the people of LA should worry more about their relationships than getting adequate health care in a hospital.
The hospital in question has been given 23 days to wise the fuck up or else it'll lose federal funding and go out of business. The two dispatchers and the entourage of dipshit cops are also under investigation. They've released the woman's cause of death as the result of a peforated bowel, which means if these fucking morons had treated her when she was brought in, she might have survived. But because everyone involved chose to ignore her pleas for help, death for her was imminent. I pity her husband; it must be tough to watch your wife die like she's some kind of goddamned dog. I hope he sues the shit out of them and wins. Current Music: Mudhoney - Poisoned Water

Hey guys, check this out. The following is my favorite line from the article mentioned: "Research has also shown that marijuana kills cancer cells and reduces tumor growth. This is, in part, because marijuana reduces the formation of blood vessels that nourish tumors."Well, I'll be damned. While cigarettes and everything else seems to be causing cancer, marijuana actually helps reduce the risk of cancer and tumor growth. So smoking reefer not only helps with pain, nausea, and other pesky things, it's actually good for you. Who would've thought--the hippies finally got something right. Unfortunately, even though weed is far more helpful than a ton of legally prescribed drugs with horrendous side effects attatched to them, we probably won't see it legalized anytime soon. Not in our lifetime, anyway. That's a real shame, I know a shitload of people who could use it to help improve the quality of their lives. But as long as corporations are doing nothing but pumping out endless supplies of bullshit that do nothing but make people sick, who cares? As long as they're pulling in money, they don't give a flying fuck how much it hurts you until it's too late. Current Mood: sleepy Current Music: Busta Rhymes - Fire It Up
